About the Chairs
The chairs are of traditional Appalachian construction, using tools and techniques from the late 1800's. The chairs are split by hand from the log, shaved using a drawknife and spokeshave, and joined using the historical technique of wet/dry joinery; this allows for assembly of the chair without the use of glue, screws, or nails. A custom finish is applied and then a seat bottom is woven into the chair.

About the Maker
Reid is a craftsman born and raised in western North Carolina. For two years he apprenticed under Lyle Wheeler in their home of Wilkes County. He continues the tradition of hand-crafting shaved post and rung chairs using period appropriate tools and techniques from his native Appalachian region.
